The best place to enjoy water, sun and beach within a walking distance from Southern most point is the Straw Hat beach. You can swim and sunbathe all day long even though the water is not so clean because of the numerous yachts and catamarans sailing accross. The Dry Tortugas National Park park is noted for abundant sea life, tropical bird breeding grounds, colorful coral reefs, and legends of shipwrecks and sunken treasures. The best way to see this is by swimming, snorkeling, diving and sailing on your own boat if possible.

Cats were one of Hemingway’s greatest passions in life when he was sailing and as a sailor, he perhaps believed as others do, that, polydactyl cats bring good luck to a ship. A local sailor named Captain Stanley Dexter decided to give Hemingway and his sons a six-toed kitten. Since that time cats are present there and to be honest you could sense bit of a strange bad smell in the backyard of the house. As for the
Key West butterfly conservatory it is truly special place and one of my favourite places in Key West. It features 50 to 60 types of butterflies in a magical setting, as well as many species of rare birds from around the world. The best place to enjoy the sunset, watching the boats sail by and feeling the ocean breeze is Pier House Resort Spa terrace. Amazing resort in a wonderful setting.

My hesitation with Hemingway’s home, though, is they say there’s tons of cats wandering around… I do wonder if it smells bad? I love cats, but they’re not always great in “herds.” Lol.
And I did love going to the docks in Key West and watching the boats sail by. There was a “pirate” ship that went by at sunset! That was the coolest. Looks like it had sailed right out of the Peter Pan storybook! I wish I could post s pic here, and I’d show you. The sunsets in Key West, and really all the Keys, are epic!!

When you’re in town, you can’t see the water or the beach. Lol. And to get a picture by the cool “southern most point” landmark, you’re gonna wait in a line that’s a mile long. So, we didn’t wait. I just found a shop with an ornament just like it and called it a day! We do want to go back and go to Dry Tortugas National Park! You can only get there by boat, and you have to snorkel or scuba dive to see most of it. It’s supposed to be amazing! ]]>We love the Florida Keys. Honestly, we loved Islamorada and Key Largo more than Key West itself. But I did get the best virgin Piña colada I’ve ever had in my life in Key West, and it was served in a real pineapple!! So fun and so good! 😋
